The Flexible Fund - tackling health equalities in Newham

The Flexible Fund seeks to enable Newham-based voluntary and community organisations to support NHS Newham in achieving its strategic objectives and improve links by :

  • building closer relationships between voluntary organisations and NHS commissioners
  • complementing NHS Newham commissioning decisions
  • funding projects that add to efforts by NHS Newham to tackle health inequalities and improve access and quality.

The Flexible Fund in 2010-11

The Flexible Funded supported seven projects and four events during 2010-11, providing £99,143.02 in funding to local groups. An Annual Report covering the administration of the Fund and an outline of the activities it supported is available to download.

Amongst the projects last year, Alternatives Trust East London received funding towards the development of a 'Faith, Relationships And Young People' website, which aims to provide confidential, impartial advice to young people about sex and allows them to email their questions in confidence to an "online advisor". It can be visited at www.fryp.org.uk

The community film-making project Black Chilli produced two short 'viral' adverts that target reducing adult smoking prevalence specifically in Bangladeshi men:
