You're sure that your activities have a positive impact on people's health and wellbeing. But how can you prove this to others?
Voluntary and community groups are becoming increasingly recognised as key providers of local health services. The NHS has recognised that commissioning from local groups can help deliver its national targets. However, without clear evidence showing the impact of their work, voluntary and community groups face a huge barrier to successfully bidding for new funding.

Aston-Mansfield Community Involvement Unit is therefore developing a Health Toolkit for voluntary and community groups who need to explicitly demonstrate how their activities can help to achieve a positive change in local people's health. When completed, the Toolkit will enable groups to more effectively measure and present the impact of their services..
The Health Toolkit will enable smaller groups to identify and highlight the health benefits their activities can provide, by offering techniques and practical examples on how to measure and present the impact of their projects. It will also help in planning projects so they have measurable health benefits. With this knowledge, local groups can develop a stronger case for funding of their activities from the NHS at a local level.
The Community Involvement Unit is liaising closely with the Black & Ethnic Minority Community Care Forum so that groups currently working towards the accredited Communities of Health quality standards are involved in the development of the Toolkit and that in future, groups undertaking the accreditation process use the Toolkit as a means of improving the measurement of the impact of their services.
Patricia Donkor (Community Development Officer, Health Impacts) will work with voluntary and community groups in Newham and with health professionals to develop the Toolkit.
