The Durning Hall shop is in Woodgrange Road, Forest Gate and sells clothes, videos, bric-a-brac, etc. There are three ways you can get involved:
Buy goods: The pricing philosophy is to keep prices low so that goods are affordable and also to ensure a quick turnover of stock. You can find clothes, pots, pans, linens, ornaments, bric-a-brac, pictures, toys, videos and CDs. We don’t have books in the shop, but there is a very large supply of books which is changing all the time on sale just around the corner at Durning Hall.
Donate goods: The shop can take a wide range of goods and has a good turnover of stock (but NOT electrical goods or large items of furniture, such as wardrobes, beds). If you are having a clear out of the attic or sorting out your wardrobe or bookshelves, we would be happy to receive your goods. You can deliver these into the shop during opening hours (Monday – Saturday 9am – 5pm) or drop them into Durning Hall 7 days a week from 9am – 9pm.
Be a volunteer: Volunteers work on a rota and are responsible for sorting and pricing the goods which are donated to the shop. They also decide on goods for the window to attract passersby. This involvement in the running of the shop is important as the volunteers need to own what goes on in every aspect of the business. Jenny Rogers, the Community Centre Co-ordinator, is always looking for more volunteers, so if you or anyone you know would be interested in being part of the shop, give Jenny a call on 020 8536 3800. |
