Overview

Aston-Mansfield is a not for profit organisation, a registered charity and a company without share capital registered in 1896. We have been working in east London since 1884.

Board of Directors

Board of Directors

Chief Executives Department

Geoffrey Wheeler is the Interim Chief Executive.  The Chief Executive's office is responsible for supporting the Management Team of the organisation, for liaising with the Board of Directors and for control of Aston-Mansfield's finances and other resources. We are committed to preventative work wherever possible. We target our interventions at vulnerable groups before problems become chronic. We aim to demonstrate the impact of preventive work. What is the cost of having a young person behind bars? What is the cost to the victim of their crime? What is the cost to society of having that person continuing their criminal activity? These costs are surely greater than providing a programme where young people develop social confidence and learn teamwork, skills in communication and leadership.

Management Team

The Senior Management Team has responsibility for the strategic oversight of the organisation. Caroline Rouse, Steve Berwick and John Connor are the development managers with responsibility for programmes and locations. Our strength lies in the close relationship developed with local communities through our provision of multi-purpose community centres, programmes and the networks we help to generate. This gives us immediate access to difficult to reach groups which larger institutions may not be aware of and whose particular needs are often unrecognised. Our preventive work diverts young people from crime and anti-social behaviour and engages their energy in creative activities. This is one example of how early intervention can have a valuable impact. The difficulty with prevention is that the economic and social benefits are frequently left out of the equation when funding decisions are being made. We argue that our approach is extremely cost effective.

Funders

We are indebted to many bodies which have funded us over many years. Central and Local Government, Charitable Trusts and Foundations as well as the Private Sector have been generous both in finance, pro bono support and gifts in kind. If you would like to support our work or learn more about how to do this, please contact our fundraising manager Deborah Henry-Pollard at deborah.hp@aston-mansfield.org.uk

Partners

Our resources are limited. We have therefore committed ourselves to working in partnership with other agencies which share our values and aspirations. We have over 30 partners from the private, statutory, voluntary and community sectors that assist us with the planning and delivery of services. We have a reputation as a reliable partner, able to deliver high quality services. If you would like to explore a working partnership with us, please contact ceoenquiries@aston-mansfield.org.uk

Financial Information

Our income is derived from our own resources, from grants and contracts for specific work, from consultancy and training and from charges for the use of our facilities. In addition to an annual grant from our sister charity, Aston-Mansfield Charitable Trust, we receive funding from statutory, commercial and charitable bodies and foundations. We are committed to raise £150,000 per annum revenue through external fundraising. We will need a major capital appeal to replace Durning Hall Community Centre in the coming years.
