Throughout the course of the Olympic period Aston-Mansfield and staff kept their doors open to the local community, celebrating our rich diversity and the games that were just on our doorstep.

One of the ways we did this was with our planned ‘Olympic days’ which took the form of one event each at Durning Hall and the Froud Centre.

On Saturday 11th August, Durning Hall staff hosted a ‘Meet the Neighbours’ tea party, a free drop in afternoon tea, with plenty of tea and cake. The event was well attended and the homemade cakes were almost completely polished off! This was a great opportunity for the local community to come together. Irish elders advice network and tender cubs both came to share their activities with attendees.

We must also say many thanks to all the brilliant volunteers who turned up to support the family fun day – Summer Blast – at the Froud Centre.

We had a huge range of activities, from arts and crafts, to fun with inflatable’s, to fairground games available for families to come and take part in on Saturday 1st September. The day went brilliantly and as well as many warm comments from happy customers, we made over £400 to be put towards our project work, which we feel was a fantastic result.

We must say a special thanks to Beatrice, Eileen, Marie, and Margot – all of whom volunteered their time and worked tirelessly all day long to make the day the success it was.

We hope to run more events in the future so keep your eyes peeled for opportunities to get involved!
