Little Manor Play Project is our core out-of-school programme, where children attending our breakfast, after school and holiday sessions participate in a wide range of fun and stimulating activities. These activities provide opportunities for social, physical & creative development and improve well-being. The programme offers parents affordable wrap around care for their children so that parents can enter or return to the work place or engage in studying or training. Our staff also signpost families to appropriate services for additional support. 200 children and their parents/carers participate in the programme each year.
We also work with families in our open access playground, Toronto Avenue Playground. Here we provide a safe outdoors place to play in an area where such facilities are limited. Playworkers organise a wide range of supervised, free play activities throughout the year that encourage children to explore the great outdoors. At a time when only 13% of children say that they play more outdoors than in, compared to 73% of parents who say they played more out than in when they were young, we recognise that children are leading ever more sedentary lives which is having a negative impact on health and fitness. The promotion of outdoor play is an important facet of our work – click here for more info about our upcoming ‘SupaPlay Saturdays’.
Additionally, local organisations and community groups benefit from our excellent play resources, facilities and staff. Our staff team, of which 80% are children or parents who have used the Play Project service, provide organised workshops for children as well as activities and play resources at events.
