FULLER FUTURES

We’re trying to raise £4000 to make our Young Achievers Group (YAG) available to more young disabled people in Newham. The YAG group meets weekly and is for young people aged 16 – 25 with special educational needs and disabilities in Newham. The group delivers a variety fun and creative activities to improve confidence, self-esteem and support the development of independence of the young people that join. It is a vital resource for many of the young people who attend and provides valuable respite for parents and carers.

2. A silent Auction – selected artworks will be available to bid for online.

3.  A final event and live auction. Please join our facebook event page for updates or contact karmel.edmonds@aston-mansfield.org.uk if you have any questions.

Please spread the news, retweet us, share our facebook posts, share this donation page, talk to people, email people, text or page(?)…let’s get as many people from the local community involved as we can!

Please use our hashtag  #fullerfutures – together we can get more coverage for the YAG group and help more young people in Newham who need extra assistance!

In their own words

Many of the young people that we work with have some barriers to communication – alongside our highly trained youth-workers we asked them to tell us what it is about the group they like and what kind of things the group enables them to do. Our wonderful volunteer Nelly has turned these stories into short comic strips:

Some information about the group and the young people we work with.

YAG is a specialist project working with young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities in Newham (SEND). We deliver regular weekly sessions to develop the confidence, self-esteem and life-skills of some of Newham’s most vulnerable young people. We also run a forum for parents and carers of the young people, to share knowledge, issues and advice.

Through activities like cooking, shopping, socialising, a variety of sports, crafts and music we’re supporting these young people to make the transition into adulthood, achieve their goals and look forwards to their next steps with confidence.

This is a vital service for our young people and their families who often find themselves lacking in structured provision and facing day to day struggles alone without a support network around them.

In the last 8 years the YAG project has worked with almost 200 young people, we have witnessed some great progression with the individuals who take part; some start volunteering, take on new academic challenges, write CVs, improve on communication skills, become more outgoing and achieve awards for their successes.

The work that we do has real impact on the lives of local families and individuals. We want to ensure that we are able to continue to respond to the demand we witness and to carry on working with individuals and families who rely on our services. We want to grow, develop, and continue to offer life-enhancing opportunities to those who attend. For information on the YAG group please visit HERE.
